I've not seen the 80s "Excalibur" film, but I've read enough Arthurian stuff to know that Bedivere is the rightful knight to cast Excalibur back in the lake. Hopeful the coming film will have the sense enough to correct that error. People need to be more careful in tampering with legends, there are certain lines that shouldn't be crossed.

Sometimes Bedivere is used in place of Lancelot to be having the affair with Guinevere, because Lancelot's character doesn't date back to anything historical, plus Arthur was said to love Bedivere like his brother in the old welsh stories. So I think that's why in Knights of The Round Table they filled in the role with Lancelot. Those two are always trading roles. A few books I know of do that as well. That doesn't bother me. Using a grail knight like Percival on the other hand is odd. I can't get my head around why EXCALIBUR did such a thing.

Speaking of Sir Bedivere, it is sad and strange the way the character suffers luck in the modern age we are in. Look at the treatment he his received in recent times: As already mentioned he was replaced in both "Knights of The Round Table" and "Excalibur". He did not appear in "Camelot" or "First Knight". In "King Arthur" he was missing also, which is odd because they said it was based on real fact. Lancelot and Galahad were there too, but not as father and son. Tristan was in it but there was no Isolde.... anyway, gearing off topic here. Save that for another thread. Anyway.... Bedivere was killed in BBC's "Merlin" by the questing beast without ever receiving a line much less a seat at the future table. Gerald Morris also let Mordred kill Bedivere in his latest book "The Squire's Quest", which means yet again Bedivere is robbed of his scene of throwing Excalibur back into the lake.
What do people have against Sir Bedivere? :quizzical:
I hope this movie will respect Bedivere and at least give him a little screentime. Do you realize even a comedy Sir Bedivere doing slap-stick would be an improvement over not featuring him at all.

Pleased to see others standing up for Sir Bedivere, and his dignity. I believe him to be a first rate knight. Yes, show him up, don't hide him! The man who throws Excalibur into the lake should have more respect. Let a film give him personalty and purpose, so he can be known as one of Camelot's finest for all to see.
